Dr. Todd Shiver is in his fifteenth year as Director of Bands at Georgia College & State University in Milledgeville. He conducts the GCSU Concert, Jazz and Basketball Pep Bands. The GCSU bands serve as musical ambassadors for the University by performing throughout the Southeastern U.S. and in Europe. His bands have featured internationally known guest artist like retired Marine Band conductor Col. John Beorgeois, jazz trumpeter Byron Stripling, Bobby Shew, Jazz Trombonist Bill Watrous, Jazz Woodwind Specialist Chris Vadala, and composers like Steven Reineke and David Holsinger. Under his direction, the GCSU Jazz Band went on a 21 day tour of the Czech Republic where they performed at the Letohrad International Music Festival and the Tyniste Jazz Festival. In addition to conducting the bands, Dr. Shiver also teaches Music Education courses and applied trumpet. He is also the Founder/Director of the GCSU High School Summer Symphonic Band Camp, Middle School Symphonic Band Camp, Jazz Band Camp and co-founder of the Drum Major/Leadership Academy. Before his appointment at GCSU, he was the Band Director at Radium Springs Middle School in Albany and Baldwin High School in Milledgeville. His professional memberships include the Georgia Music Educators Association (GMEA) where he has held office at both the District and State levels. Dr. Shiver has also served as the State Treasurer for the Georgia Association of Jazz Educators (GAJE) for six years. In addition to holding office with GMEA and GAJE, he has helped organize and host events like the GAJE State High School Jazz Clinic, GMEA Solo and Ensemble, and All-State Auditions. He is also a member of the International Trumpet Guild, National Band Association (Currently serving on the Board of Directors as the chair of Jazz Activities), Phi Mu Alpha, and Pi Kappa Lambda. Dr. Shiver holds both the Bachelors of Music and the Masters of Music Education Degrees from Auburn University, and a Doctor of Musical Arts in Music Education with a minor in Trumpet Performance from The University of Georgia.
