How to apply
Georgia College invites residency proposals from scholars and teachers of distinction in the arts, humanities, social sciences and physical sciences, the disciplines at the heart of our liberal arts mission.
The Newell Visiting Distinguished Scholar receives a stipend, and will be provided an office on campus. The ideal candidate might be a scholar on sabbatical, recently retired, or on leave for purposes of intellectual renewal. Residency periods can range from one semester (four months) to the entire academic year (8 months). Summers are excluded. While visits may vary in length, the expectation is that the scholar will be in residence for a substantial portion of the proposed visit.
Applications should be submitted through the Georgia College Employment Web Site.
The following items are needed to complete the application:
- A statement of how the residency will offer something original and engaging to students, faculty colleagues and the campus community, including how the residency will support and enhance the public liberal arts mission of the university;
- The period and length of the residency with a schedule of major initiatives, presentations and projects: and
- The preferred year in which the scholarly activity will take place.
