Pre-Nursing Residential Learning Community

Program Overview

The Pre-Nursing Residential Learning Community (RLC) offers incoming freshmen majoring in Pre-Nursing the opportunity to live, network and study together. Activities sponsored by the School of Nursing acquaint students in the program with faculty and staff, as well as critical issues related to the field. The Pre-Nursing Residential Learning Community provides students with the opportunity for guaranteed admission to the nursing program, academic support, career exploration and integrated social experiences.

Applications for the Fall 2013 Pre-Nursing RLC are now available.

Students will be selected for this community based upon: overall GPA, SAT/ACT scores, two recommendation letters regarding academic performance, and an entrance interview.

The advantage of being a Pre-Nursing RLC member is that you are guaranteed admission to the nursing cohort your junior year as long as you meet the following criteria:

  • Completion of minimum application requirements
  • Complete all required pre-nursing courses with a grade of "C" or better
  • Status as an active member of the RLC (based upon a points system)
  • Have a cumulative GPA of at least a 3.0

The guarantee is your reward for choosing Georgia College to begin your nursing education! Benefits of this program include:

  • Guaranteed admission to the Nursing Program pending minimum nursing application and RLC requirements
  • Personalized Freshman Seminar course open only to Pre-Nursing RLC members
  • Living as a cohort together in Parkhurst Hall
  • Faculty dinners to spend time outside of class with faculty, staff and administrators from the College of Nursing
  • Programs in the hall to enhance students' understanding of the fields of nursing and healthcare
  • Regular One-on-One time with the Pre-Nursing Academic Advisor
  • Interaction with the two nursing student organizations: Georgia College Association of Nursing Students (GCANS) and Black Association of Nursing Students (BANS)
  • Opportunities to have discussions with faculty and staff about topics such as career opportunities, diversity and its impact on healthcare and coping with academic stress
  • Volunteer opportunities, on-site visits, and interaction with professionals and alumni
