The Office of Inclusive Excellence (OIE) is proud to implement a campus wide initiative called We are 3Rs: Civility - Moving toward Inclusive Excellence. The initiative compliments and exemplifies the university’s 3R values of reason, respect and responsibility. By developing a culture of civility with a focus on diversity and inclusion, respectful discourse and behavior at Georgia College will be promoted.

We are excited to implement this initiative to the campus as we work to build inclusive excellence at Georgia College. It is our desire that every student, staff and faculty member embraces and reflects the 3Rs towards their fellow Bobcats in the classroom, residence hall, workplace and all other environments on campus. By promoting civility, we move toward inclusive excellence as well as support a welcoming and safe campus to learn and work.

The Office of Inclusive Excellence (OIE) brings back this popular Civility Development Workshop from spring 2017! Many of us might consider ourselves good listeners ... and, yet both research and human experience show that misunderstanding and misinterpretation are all too common. Active listening skills can help us resolve conflicts more effectively; build trust with employees, colleagues and students; enhance customer service and improve both personal and professional relationships. Dr. Amy Burt, Associate Professor of Rhetoric from the Department of Communication, will be the facilitator.

Implicit bias is the result of a variety of messages introduced into our subconscious from an early age. Many of these biases are deep down in our unconscious and often influence how we act toward one another in our organizations, communities and relationships. Learn how race, sex, age, or other characteristics influence how we see and treat people when we are genuinely trying to be unbiased. You will also explore ways to identify hidden bias and create ways to reduce the bias effect.

#IAMGC: What’s Your Story?

#IAMGC is a social media campaign designed to capture and celebrate the diversity of the GC community by collecting and sharing our stories, values, culture and experiences. By sharing and embracing our differences, we can create a more inclusive environment where everyone feels welcome.

How Can You Get Involved?

  • Look for our #IAMGC tables at various locations and events throughout the year
  • Use #IAMGC on your social media platforms to highlight your contribution to diversity and inclusion at Georgia College
