Guiding Principles

Leadership and Accountability
The Administration is responsible for providing appropriate leadership for the planning process and assumes accountability for its success.

The President's Cabinet, accountable to the President, will be responsible for providing leadership and for assisting with the oversight and coordination of the strategic focusing process.

Broad-Based Inclusive Participation
Every effort should be made throughout the process to provide opportunities for extensive participation, inclusion, and consultation with and by both on-campus and off-campus stakeholders.

Respect for Existing Administrative and Governance Mechanisms
The process should be designed and conducted in a manner that respects the delegated accountabilities of existing administrative and governance entities.

Communications
Extensive efforts should be made to ensure appropriate and extensive communications with all interested stakeholders throughout the process.

Rational Analysis
Dialogue and consensus should be facilitated by objective analysis of relevant information and data that is reliable, valid and timely.

Results-Driven
The process is intended to address high priority issues and must produce "planning products" that have strategic value and utility.
