Georgia College President delivers 2014 State of the University Address

President's State of the University 2014Georgia College President Dr. Steve Dorman gave his second State of the University address to students, faculty and staff Feb. 7, 2014, in Russell Auditorium.

Dr. Dorman discussed accomplishments over the last year and highlighted goals for the future to heighten Georgia College’s national reputation.

Those include:

Achieve excellence in student success, faculty success and institutional success: Dr. Dorman believes our continued progress as an institution will be linked to our efforts to achieve excellence in three areas: Student Success, Institutional and Program Success and Faculty Success. Many efforts are coming together to enhance the educational experience of our students and to increase our four-year graduation rate.

Diversify the faculty, staff and student body and provide a welcoming environment for all: The Georgia College community has participated in a diversity strategic planning process. After three public forums, the committee has drafted the Diversity Action Plan, and in the next few months, discussions will take place on how to implement the actionable items in the plan.

Enhance our endowment and increase our external support through a comprehensive campaign: Dr. Dorman announced the launch of the next comprehensive fundraising campaign is near. The university has also added two support positions to help track our alumni’s professional growth and to identify potential philanthropic investors.

Promote economic development for our region: Thanks to the encouragement and support of Georgia College, a Strategic Planning Initiative has begun in Milledgeville-Baldwin County. This planning process will provide a way for the community to develop a common vision and share common goals.

Invest in technology infrastructure: New phones will soon be installed in offices, which will provide enhanced communication capabilities. We are working to consolidate, when possible, usernames and passwords for accessing Georgia College enterprise systems.  All students will also soon be able to download and install Office products at no cost as part of campus licensing.
