Investigations
The Department of Public Safety's Criminal Investigation Division (CID) is staffed by two full time investigators who are responsible for conducting initial and follow-up investigations of all reported crimes that occur on the Georgia College campus and in some instances, property surrounding the Georgia College campus at the request of any student, staff, or faculty member within our jurisdiction.
The Criminal Investigation Division also works closely with other local, state and federal authorities, monitors local pawn shops, and analyzes crime trends to determine and implement preventive actions. This division is also responsible for detailed and thorough interviews of victims, witnesses and suspects, assisting the District Attorney's Office with the prosecution of major cases, serving as a witness for the state and preparing statements and evidence prior to trial.
The Georgia College Police Department is a member of the Law Enforcement Security Network (LESN) which includes members of federal, state, and local law enforcement and select members of the private industry. The LESN is an information sharing group that meets once a month at the U.S. Attorney's Office in Macon, Georgia. The Criminal Investigation Division is assigned as the list serve moderator for the LESN which oversees the process of gathering information from law enforcement and businesses to distribute throughout the state on a daily basis. The LESN aggressively targets new crime trends and serious offenders that victimize citizens of Georgia. The group works closely with Metro-Tech out of the Metropolitan Atlanta area.
