Lost and Found
Overview
Public Safety often acquires found and mislaid property recovered from campus. However, due to statutory requirements set forth in O.C.G.A 17-5-54 governing receipt and disposition of property (including found or abandoned property) by law enforcement agencies, Public Safety shall not receive or otherwise handle lost and found property unless under certain limited circumstances. Public Safety may receive valuable or sensitive items for safekeeping. The following types of property items may be received:
- Purses and wallets containing U.S. currency, credit card,etc.
- Valuable jewelry
- Contraband
- Deadly or illegal weapons, and
- any other items of significant value or sensitive in nature
Procedures
Members of the Campus Community wishing to turn in lost and found property NOT fitting the above items shall be directed to take such items to the nearest Campus Building Manager's Department.
To report found property or to inquire on lost property, please call the Communications Coordinator at 478-445-3082 for assistance.
Every attempt will be made to contact the owner, if identified, of any property that is turned in within a timely manner. Property that has been unclaimed for 90 or more days is subject to being disposed of without notice according to Georgia law.
