Student Night Auxiliary Patrol
Introduction
The Georgia College & State University Department of Public Safety is pleased to announce that the SNAP Program, Student Night Auxiliary Patrol, was re-instated during the Spring 2009 semester. The program enables students to patrol the campus via foot and golf carts and provide safety escorts to the university community during the evenings and at night. Anyone who is on or within the immediate proximity of the GCSU campus is encouraged to call the GCSU Department of Public Safety at (478) 445-4054 and ask for a safety escort if you will be walking within the downtown area. The service is FREE of charge and will be available most weeknights. Please feel free to call and ask for more details!
Geographical Limits
Escorts will be provided to and from all GCSU property with the exception of The Village at West Campus. Escorts will not go west of Irwin St., north of Thomas St., east of Wayne St., or south of Franklin St.

Monday & Tuesday: 8 p.m. – Midnight
Wednesday & Thursday: 8 p.m. – 2:30 a.m.
Student Recruitment
The Department of Public Safety encourages any students who are interested in law enforcement and serving the university community to volunteer as a SNAP Officer. We are currently authorized eight SNAP Officer positions. The SNAP Officers are volunteers that want to make an impact on the safety of the university community. SNAP Officers can volunteer up to 14 hours per week. SNAP Officers undergo training before they are allowed to perform any duties. The training includes general knowledge about the Police Department and the GCSU campus, radio procedures, escort procedures, self defense, and more. Criteria to be considered a SNAP Officer:
- At least 18 years old
- Currently enrolled as a student at GCSU
- Be in good standing with the university in regards to academic standing and any disciplinary actions
- Be in good standing with the GCSU Police Department and its staff
- Have a valid Class C Georgia drivers license
- Consent to a background investigation
- Cannot have any pending criminal charges
- Not affiliated with any cults, gangs or organized crime
- Not using any illegal narcotics
- Satisfactorily pass an oral interview
