Georgia College recognizes first C-bEL fellows

Georgia College has announced its first Community-based Engaged Learning (C-bEL) Fellows for their continued work inolving students in community engagement projects. The 2014-2015 C-bEL Fellows are:

  • Kirk Armstrong, Associate Professor of Health and Human Performance & Coordinator of Athletic Training
  • Jan Clark, Associate Professor of Rhetoric
  • Ruth Eilers, Director of Academic Outreach
  • Renee Fontenot, Associate Professor of Marketing
  • Barbara Funke, Professor of Community Health
  • Sandra Godwin, Associate Professor of Sociology

ENGAGE Welcomes first Apprentice Cohort

Ten GC faculty and staff will participate in the inaugural ENGAGE Apprentice Cohort through the Community-based Engaged Learning (C-bEL) workshop series.  Participatnts will attend workshops over the course of the 2014-2015 academic year, as they design a Community-based Engaged Learning experience for GC students. Participants receive stipends for participating in the cohort and for implementation of their C-bEL experience. Each participant will report his or her work in the form of an implementation proposal, which will serve as a mini-grant application if the participant decides to pursue funding for implementation. The 2014-2015 Apprentice Cohort are:

  • Marcela Chiorescu, Assistant Professor of Mathematics
  • Peggy Elliott, Assistant Professor of French
  • Robin Lewis, Director of the Office of Grants and Sponsored Projects
  • Chavonda Mills, Associate Professor of Chemistry
  • Katie Simon, Assistant Professor of English
  • Emily Simonavice, Assistant Professor of Exercise Science
  • Susan Steele, Associate Professor of Nursing
  • Allison VandeVoort, Assistant Professor of Environmental Science
  • Erin Weston, Coordinator of the Bridge Scholars Program
  • Elaine Whitaker, Professor of English & Chair of English and Rhetoric
