What is the procedure for undergraduates to apply for graduation?
The application/processing fee of $45 is paid at the Business Office. The applicant then makes an appointment with his/her advisor to devise a course of study which will serve as a contract between the student and the university. This course of study should be followed exactly. The application is then sent to the Department Chairperson for approval. It is then sent to the Office of the Registrar where the evaluation is completed. The student will be notified by mail of any discrepancies that exist. This process takes approximately 2 to 3 weeks to complete.
If changes occur after the application has been received a revision must be approved by the department and resubmitted to the Office of the Registrar.

How do I get academic regalia?
You will receive notification through your bobcats email as to when the regalia will be available for purchase at the Box Office Bookstore on Hancock Street.
How do I know if I will be recognized for receiving academic honors (Summa Cum Laude, Magna Cum Laude, or Cum Laude)?
When your Undergraduate Graduation Application is reviewed by the Office of the Registrar the institutional and overall GPA is calculated based on the assumption that the student will receive grades of "A"s in all academic courses that have been proposed on part B of the application. If it is determined that the student has the possibility of achieving honors it is noted on the application under Possible Honors. The GPA is once again checked before regalia is available, if it is still possible that the student may receive honors, the bookstore is notified to give the student a gold honors cord to be worn with the regalia. If a student maintains the GPA the honors designation is engraved on the diploma.
How are academic honors calculated?
Academic honors is calculated using all (including courses that were repeated) transfer and institutional coursework. The overall GPA is looked at first, if it is within the guidelines of the following:
Cum Laude 3.60-3.74
Magna Cum Laude 3.75-3.89
Summa Cum Laude 3.90-4
then the institutional GPA is evaluated. Honors is determined using the lesser of the two GPAs.
(i.e. If a student's overall GPA is a possible 3.62 and the institutional GPA is a possible 3.59, honors designation will not be given, or if a student's overall GPA is a possible 3.599 and the institutional GPA is a possible 3.60, honors designation will not be given).
It is GC's policy that GPAs are never rounded up (3.599 = 3.59).
