You should apply for graduation by the date
given for the term in which you'll complete your degree
requirements.
Click here to see the deadlines.
Students completing requirements during any
of the summer terms are asked to
participate in the prior May Commencement
Ceremony. Diplomas will be mailed 3-6 weeks after all
GCSU's summer sessions are complete.
Students completing requirements during the
Fall term are asked to participate in the next Spring's
Commencement Ceremony. Information pertaining to the
ceremony will be sent to you several weeks in advance
(it's recommended that you maintain an accurate address
through PAWS). Diplomas will be mailed 3-6 weeks after
the Fall term is complete.
The application/processing fee of $45 is
paid at the Business Office. The applicant
then makes an appointment with his/her
adviser to devise a course of study which
will serve as a contract between the student
and the university. This course of study
should be followed exactly. The application
is then sent to the Department Chairperson
for approval. It is then sent to the Office
of the Registrar where the evaluation is
completed. The student will be notified by
mail of any discrepancies that exist. This
process takes approximately 4 to 6 weeks to
complete.
If changes occur after the application has
been received a revision must be approved by
the department and resubmitted to the Office
of the Registrar.
The application/processing fee of $45 is
paid at the Business Office. The application
is then turned into the Office of the
Registrar and is reviewed by the student's
coordinator to ensure that the student's
program of study has been followed. The
coordinator will forward a letter to the
student. This process takes approximately 2
weeks to complete.
120 semester hours are needed for most
undergraduate degrees please check the
catalog for specific requirements.
30 to 45 semester hours are needed for a
graduate degree please check the
catalog for specific requirements.
Diplomas are normally sent to the student's
permanent address (designated on the
graduation application) 3 to 6 weeks after
the end of the term.
The Office of the Registrar receives and processes grades. Graduation applications are
evaluated once again and discrepancies are reported. Degrees are awarded and diplomas
are printed.
You will receive notification through MyCats as to when
the regalia will be available at the PawPrints Bookstore
on Wilkinson Street. The gowns are sized by height.
When your Undergraduate Graduation Application is
reviewed by the Registrar's Office the institutional and
overall GPA is calculated based on the assumption
that the student will receive grades of "A"s in all
academic courses that have been proposed on part B of
the application. If it is determined that the
student has the possibility of achieving honors it is
noted on the application under Possible Honors.
The GPA is once again checked before regalia is
available, if it is still possible that the student may
receive honors, the bookstore is notified to give the
student a gold honors cord to be worn with the regalia.
If a student maintains the GPA the honors designation is
engraved on the diploma.
Academic honors is calculated using all (including
courses that were repeated) transfer and institutional
coursework. The overall GPA is looked at first, if
it is within the guidelines of the following:
Cum Laude 3.60-3.74
Magna Cum Laude 3.75-3.89
Summa Cu Laude 3.90-4
then the institutional GPA is evaluated. Honors is
determined using the lesser of the two GPAs.
(i.e. If a student's overall GPA is a possible
3.62 and the institutional GPA is a possible 3.59,
honors designation will not be given, or if a
student's overall GPA is a possible 3.599 and the
institutional GPA is a possible 3.60, honors designation
will not be given).
It is GCSU's policy that GPAs are never rounded up (3.599
= 3.59). |
