Withdrawal Process

Students can now formally withdraw from all courses on line by:

  • Log in to PAWS
  • Click on Student Services
  • Select the Online Withdrawal Form

Follow all the steps provided on the screen; the withdrawal process is not complete until a confirmation page is received.  Please save the confirmation page for your records.

Important Information:

  • Students who withdraw for any reason between the first day of classes and last day to drop a course without academic penalty (see exact dates) will receive grades of  "W" in all courses in which they are enrolled at the time of the withdrawal, unless previously assigned an "F" for excessive absences.
  • Students who withdraw after the last day to drop a course without academic penalty (see exact dates) will receive grades of "WF" in all courses in which they are enrolled at the time of the withdrawal, unless previously assigned an "F" for excessive absences.
  • If a withdrawal completed after the last day to drop a course without academic penalty is due to nonacademic extenuating circumstances, and if the student is passing all courses at the time of the withdrawal, the student may petition to receive grades of "W" instead of "WF."  This request should be made using a petition form, include a thorough explanation of the circumstances and any related documentation available, and must be approved by the student's advisor, department chair,  dean, and Registrar.
  • If a withdrawal completed after the last day to drop a course without academic penalty is due to a student's medical condition, the student may petition to receive grades of "W" instead of "WF."   The request for a medical withdrawal should include a letter from the student's medical care provider detailing the diagnosis, date of onset, dates of consultations, and verifying that this condition would have affected the ability of the student to attend classes and complete academic coursework.   The request should also include a statement from the student that includes the last date he or she attended classes.  This request should be made using a petition form, and must be approved by the student's advisor, department chair, dean, and Registrar.
  • Students who withdraw from all courses may be required to return a portion of any federal financial aid received for that semester.  Contact the Financial Aid Office for additional information.
  • Students who withdraw during the first  days/weeks of the semester will receive a pro-rated refund.  For more information, visit the Business and Finance Web site.
  • Failure to withdraw officially will result in the grade of "F" in all courses.
  • The timing of withdrawals in order to avoid academic or fee penalty is the responsibility of the student.  Deadlines are published in the Academic Calendar and can also be found on our Web site.
