Benefits of Joining a Greek Organization
Greek Life offers students the opportunity to enhance their University experience through the unique opportunities offered by participation in fraternities and sororities. Fraternities and sororities promote scholarship, provide leadership opportunities, build lasting friendships, encourage community service and philanthropy, and allow for social and athletic opportunities. Commitment to personal and organizational goals and striving for excellence make up the foundation of the Georgia College Greek system.
Leadership Opportunities
The Greek Community is the perfect environment for developing and utilizing leadership skills that will be beneficial to you in the future. Each member is encouraged to find a balance between scholarship and various campus activities. Positions of leadership are available in every Greek organization and throughout campus. Each chapter depends on its members to coordinate self governing aspects of the organization.
Community Service
Greek interests and concerns go far beyond the confines of campus life. The Greek Community contributed thousands of service hours and tremendous amounts of money and donations to charities and philanthropies alone. Each Greek organization also sponsors numerous activities each year to earn money for its special philanthropy. Through participation in projects and fundraisers, Greeks develop a sense of responsibility and civic duty.
Scholarship
Scholarship, academics, and grades are the mainstay of college life. The Greek Community has various standards for membership when it comes to academics. All Greek organizations at GC require that their members maintain a 2.3 GPA or higher. Many Greeks have also received scholarships from alumni and national organizations for their outstanding academic achievements. Greek letter organizations were founded on the principle of successful scholarship and the individuals who excel are rewarded.
Brotherhood and Sisterhood
Brotherhood and Sisterhood is the most enjoyable part of Greek Membership because it involves making new friends and forming bonds that will last longer than your college years. It is much more than just wearing the same Greek letters. It is a feeling and a sense of belonging. It is the sense of loyalty and commitment to one another. It involves thinking "we" instead of "me", giving of yourself, and the responsibility of making the most of yourself and others.
Social Opportunities
Retreats, formals, cookouts, ball games, Homecoming, socials with other fraternities and sororities, Greek Week, intramural sports…FUN! Activities are an important part of Greek Life and the wide variety gives everyone something they will enjoy. They are an exciting outlet from the hectic demands of college life.
