Sponsorship Process for Permanent Residency
Departments that are currently employing an international that is currently holding an H-1B visa and wish to pursue permanent residency will need to request the Office of Legal Affairs to begin the sponsorship process.
The hiring department should understand there is no guarantee the international employee will be approved for permanent residency. Each case is different and depending on the category/path in which the international employee qualifies will determine the process. To begin the PERM process, the department chairperson (or designee) must complete the appropriate application and upload ALL documents to the application and submit - this includes the sponsorship request letter.
