General Rules and Policies

 

  • The Wellness and Recreation Center is a controlled access facility. Entrance and exit must be through the main entrance.
  • All users are required to access the WRC via biometric screening upon entrance to the center.
  • Participants MUST complete the Wellness and Recreation Center orientation packet materials (Acknowledgement of Rules & Policies, Liability Waiver and Par-Q) prior to using the facility.
  • All participants must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Members must accompany their guest(s) at all times.
  • Members are responsible for the conduct of their guest(s).
  • Respect for equipment, facility and other patrons must be demonstrated at all times.
  • Inappropriate or disruptive behavior (i.e. profanity, fighting, shoving) will not be tolerated and may result in expulsion and loss of WRC privileges.
  • Loud, crude or foul language will not be permitted.
  • In the event of an injury or accident, a WRC staff member should be notified immediately.
  • Smoking, tobacco, alcohol and drugs are strictly prohibited. Students, faculty/staff or community members who violate this policy will be subject to disciplinary action and penalties in accordance with the Honor Code and Code of Conduct as published in the Student Handbook of Georgia College.
  • Food and beverages are permitted only in the lobby of the main entry level. 
  • Proper exercise attire is required in all areas. Shirts and closed-toe athletic shoes must be worn at all times, and only non-marking shoes may be worn when appropriate. Sandals and open-toed shoes are not permitted in any activity area throughout the facility.
  • Day-use and rental lockers are available. All personal belongings should be secured in a locker in the WRC locker rooms or stored in one of the cubbies located throughout the facility that is in your line of sight. WRC management recommends leaving all valuables at home.
  • Locks and contents must be removed daily from day-use lockers. Locks will be cut and lockers cleared at the end of each day. 
  • WRC is not responsible for any personal items that are lost or stolen.
  • Staff members are not permitted to hold equipment, valuables or bags for participants.
  • Use of cell phones is prohibited while using exercise equipment and when participating in any fitness activity. Cell phones are only allowed in the common socializing areas and the lobby/hallway on the first floor.
  • Personal radios are only allowed with headphones.
  • All WRC phones are for business and emergency use only.
  • Only WRC staff may operate stereo equipment or adjust thermostats.
  • Photographing and/or videotaping via cell phone or any recording device is not allowed. Any photography or videotaping within the facility must be approved by the director of the WRC.
  • The WRC may not be used for private or commercial purposes unless such activity has been approved by WRC Management. Examples of prohibited activity include but are not limited to: personal training, private instruction, sales, etc.
  • Areas within the WRC and equipment shall be used only for the intended purposes.
  • WRC members should report any concerns about the facility and/or equipment to WRC staff as soon as possible.
  • A closing announcement will be made approximately 15 minutes prior to closing. All participants are expected to finish their activity, rack all weight equipment, return any checked out equipment, finish showering and exit the WRC by closing time.
  • Participants must respect the authority of the WRC Fitness staff and follow their instructions accordingly. It is the user’s responsibility to follow all posted rules.
  • Violations of these rules may result in loss of privileges and/or disciplinary action.
  • Questions concerning these rules should be directed to WRC management or a supervisor on duty.

 

Attire and Footwear

The Wellness and Recreation Center reserves the right to determine the acceptability of all exercise attire. WRC staff decisions concerning appropriate clothing will be final. Failure to dress properly will result in denial of use of the WRC and/or participation in WRC activities.

  • Appropriate exercise attire is required at all times.
  • Sandals, slides and open-toed shoes are not permitted while participating in any activity in the WRC. Full athletic footwear must be worn. Flip-flops are only allowed on the pool deck, and bare feet may be allowed in appropriate Group Fitness classes, such as Yoga.
  • Tank tops, sleeveless shirts, mesh tops and mid-drifts are NOT allowed in any part of the WRC. The only exception is for participation in Intramural Sports and WRC Group Fitness classes.
  • Shoes, shirts, shorts and/or pants must be worn at all times.
  • Jeans, zippered, metal riveted shorts or pants are prohibited due to the risk of ripping equipment upholstery and risk of injury.
  • Clothing with offensive language, designs and/or pictures or which others may find offensive is not acceptable, in accordance with the GC Code of Conduct.
  • Shorts must be long enough to cover the buttocks and groin when the participant exercises or moves. Appropriate support and undergarments are required at all times.
  • Shoes that mark floors, have open toes or heels and turf shoes are prohibited in court and exercise areas.
  • Jewelry that may cause equipment damage or pose a risk of injury should be removed.

 

Food and Beverages

  • Food is NOT allowed at any time in any activity area.
  • Food may only be allowed as an exception for special events if prior approval/arrangements are granted by the director of the WRC.
  • Food must be kept in the lobby.
  • Water and sports drinks in sealable containers are the only beverages allowed in activity areas including but not limited to wood courts, the Natatorium and pools, and all Fitness Areas and rooms. Cups without lids and carry-out cups are not allowed.
  • All containers are subject to substance check at any time by WRC staff.
  • Glass containers are prohibited at all times.
  • Chewing gum is NOT permitted in the WRC.

 

 

Lost and Found

  • Found items should be turned in at the Member Services desk.
  • Items turned in will be recorded in the Lost & Found log in CSI.
  • Inquiries regarding items lost should be made at Member Services.
  • Items not claimed within seven days will be donated to the GIVE Center.
  • Staff members are not permitted to hold valuables.
