Tailgating at Georgia College & State University

At Georgia College we not only allow tailgating, we even encourage it!  We want our fans to show Bobcat Pride both before and during our athletic events.  To help provide the best tailgating experience that Milledgeville can offer, we have established a few guidelines to make your tailgating party great and safe!

Where and when can I tailgate?

Tailgating is permitted in the parking areas serving the venue of the athletic event you are attending.   For most major events on central campus, the designated tailgating areas will consist of the surrounding parking areas servicing the Centennial Center on game days and selected events.  For events at the John Kurtz Field, Bobcat Field, and Peeler Complex Softball Field tailgating will be permitted in the gravel parking lot serving these areas and the parking lot serving The Michael Peeler Athletic Complex.

No alcohol will be allowed inside the Centennial Center or any other intercollegiate athletic venue.  Family friendly zones are designed to provide an area for those who do not wish to consume alcohol but still participate in the tailgating experience.

Approved Tailgating Locations

The designed tailgating area for Centennial Center for home basketball games and special events is all surrounding parking areas. No alcohol is allowed within the Centennial Center.

Fast Facts for Tailgating at Georgia College

Garbage and Recycling
Georgia College prides itself on a beautiful historic campus and it's up to us to keep it that way!  When tailgating please be mindful of your surroundings and your impact on the environment.  Bring less to your tailgate, bag your trash, and recycle what you can.

Restrooms
Restrooms for tailgating fans are located inside the Centennial Center on Central Campus and in The Michael Peeler Athletic Complex on West Campus.  On occasion, portable restrooms will be set up around campus.  Tailgaters are NOT PERMITTED in residence halls unless accompanied by a resident of that building.  Persons found entering or inside a residence hall without appropriate escort are trespassing and will be subject to the fines and charges associated with such.

Power for your Tailgate
Georgia College recommends that you use your vehicle to power any audio or video equipment and we have found that AC power converters can be purchased at most electronics stores. Generators are not prohibited but are not recommended as they present many safety hazards.

Alcohol Consumption at Tailgating
Legal and responsible consumption of alcohol is allowed in the designated areas found above, aside from the family-friendly zone.  However, please be aware that both the Georgia College campuses in Milledgeville are adjacent to city streets and/or county streets under the jurisdiction of the City of Milledgeville and Baldwin County Government regulations, which include an ordinance banning open containers of alcoholic beverages.

Fire Lanes and Handicap Spaces
Fire lanes and handicap spaces will be strictly enforced.  If you are illegally parked in either a fire lane or handicap space you may be putting others at risk and are subject to ticketing and/or towing.  Be responsible and follow the direction of parking attendants and Georgia College Public Safety.

Saving Spaces for Other Tailgaters
All parking on campus (other than those controlled by the Athletic Department on game day) is on a first-come, first served basis and you cannot save parking spaces for other Bobcat fans.

Weekday Game-Day on Central Campus
Parking Services will begin flow control into the Centennial Center Commuter lots beginning three hours (or more) prior to the game start.  When full, signs will be placed indicating Overflow Event Parking available at the Irwin Street lot.  Transportation Services will be supplying two buses dedicated to event travel from one hour prior to the first game and  45 minutes after the conclusion of the last game.

Family Friendly Zone
Alcohol is not permitted in the Family Friendly Zone.  Bobcat fans are not allowed to set up any sort of tailgate with coolers or other large containers of alcoholic beverages in this area.  In the event that there are Bobcat fans who are inebriated or causing a disruption they will be escorted out of the area.
