Other Major Requirements

  1. A grade of C or better must be earned in all PSYC courses counted toward the major.
  2. PSYC 1101 is a prerequisite to all PSYC 3000-4000 level courses; psychology majors must have a grade of c or better in PSYC 1101.
  3. Completion of PASS (Psychology Academic Success Skills) on-line course with a satisfactory grade of 94%. All students who transfer to GCSU or change their major to psychology must compete PASS.
  4. To declare a Psychology Major, students must (a) obtain a combined GPA of 2.5 in PSYC 2700 and PSYC 2800, (b) complete the "Application to become a Psychology Major", (c) complete on-line PASS (Psychology Academic Success Skills) and (d) complete these courses before reaching 90 institutional credit hours. Transfer students must declare psychology as a major prior to reaching 30 institutional credit hours.
  5. Students must take the Senior Exit Exam during the semester in which they graduate and pass it with a scaled score of 135 or higher.  Students who do not earn at least a 135 on this exam must obtain a grade of C or higher in PSYC 4940 Senior Exit Exam Seminar.
  6. Students must successfully complete one of the Capstone options during their senior year. Students cannot use additional Capstone courses toward their Major Requirements.
  7. The pre-psychology major is the equivalent of an undeclared major with an emphasis in psychology coursework. In order to graduate with a Psychology major, students must apply and be accepted into the program, it is recommended that you apply before your junior year.

Additional Requirements

  1. A minimum of 39 hours overall (i.e., not necessarily in the major) must be at the 3000-4000 level.
  2. Electives must total at least 21 hours, not to exceed 30 hours.

  4. Nine (9) hours of PSYC courses at the 3000-4000 level. Independent Studies and Internships may not be used to create a minor. Three (3) of the nine hours must come from the Psychology Content Area (3000 level courses).
