Cognate Area of Specialization

27 semester hours

Students will select a cognate area of specialization in Therapeutic Use of Adventure, Management, Environmental Education, or Health and Physical Education

Students will select a minor or second major in a discipline related to the specialization.

Six - nine hours are stipulated for each specialization area. The remaining hours must be approved by the advisor.

NOTES:

  1. Only grades of C or better are permitted in Area F, the Major Requirements and the Cognate Area of Specialization.
  2. Students agree to the terms and conditions stated in the Outdoor Education Student Handbook for admission to and retention in the outdoor education program.
  3. Students are required to demonstrate swimming proficiency or show proof of current lifeguard or WSI certification.
  4. Students are required to hold a current Wilderness First Responder certificate for internship approval.
  5. Students are required to complete 15 hours per semester of professional service.
  6. Students are required to attend a professional conference.
  7. In order to graduate, students must also fulfill other requirements specified in the Graduation Requirements section of the Catalog.
