MISSION

The primary mission of the Department of Foundations and Secondary Education at the undergraduate level is to provide foundations and instructional technology courses for educator preparation programs in the College of Education and the College of Health Sciences.

Students seeking certification in the secondary (6-12) teaching fields (biology, business, chemistry, English, French, history, mathematics, political science, and Spanish) or the art (P-12) pursue an undergraduate degree in the desired content area and participate in the pre-professional program in secondary education to prepare for admission to the Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) program upon graduation. This degree program prepares candidates for initial teacher certification at the master's level. The Graduate School catalog provides the admission requirements for the MAT degree program.
