An Overview of the Department of Biological and Environmental Sciences

Sound Understanding
As a Biology major, you will have a sound understanding of cellular and molecular biology, organismal biology, and evolution, and ecology. If Environment Sciences major, a variety of field and laboratory techniques used in environmental impact studies will be central, as well as a broad exposure to the political, social, and economic aspects of the environment.

Challenging and Rewarding
Your professors will provide both challenging and rewarding classes in an effort to instill an appreciation for critical thinking, the scientific method, and the role of science in our technologically oriented society. You will also receive thorough instruction in the scientific process and interpretation of scientific data along with experimental design and experience with modern instrumentation.

Research Opportunities
Research opportunities with faculty supervision are available at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The faculty view active research as an effective teaching tool.

You Will Be Ready
When you graduate, you will be ready. You will have a broad perspective on current biological topics and concerns, and have field and laboratory experience that should make you competitive in the job market or well prepared to continue with graduate work.
