Please consider a gift to Georgia College's Global Scholars Fund.
For more than 20 years, the international education program has been a point of pride - and an element of distinction - for Georgia College. Each year, the university is privileged to host over 100 student-scholars from around the globe; students whose intelligence, skills, creativity, rich personal histories and valuable perspectives greatly enrich our campus, the community and our region. Enthusiastic and passionate about the promotion of knowledge, global skills, and mutual understanding, Georgia College's international students diversify our classrooms, share their cultures through presentations to both student and community groups, donate valuable community service hours to local schools and charities, and organize and coordinate on-campus programmatic activities including the university's International Day program held each fall.
A highly-anticipated fixture each year of both the university and community calendar, the very popular International Dinner is another event made possible through the efforts of our international students and Georgia College's International Club. Boasting an annual membership well in excess of 100 members, the International Club includes dozens of globally-minded domestic students who wish - inspired, in many cases, by their study abroad experiences - to promote diversity, culture, and cross-cultural awareness, communication and understanding. Each year, more than 300 Georgia College students elect to participate in semester and summer study abroad programs offered by the university in nearly 30 different countries. On campus, the university's cross-cultural living experience, Casa Mondo, houses more than 30 residents who live their love of languages, culture, and the exploration of ideas.
As Georgia's designated public liberal arts university, Georgia College is committed to the development of all students as informed global citizens serving the many current needs of our world, while also anticipating its future needs. The creation of opportunities for international students to come and study with the university's excellent, and student-centered, faculty on Georgia College's beautiful campus in historic Milledgeville, and the offering of meaningful - and skill and resume'-building - international experiences to our domestic students, is a critical component of the university's mission. In order to provide these experiences to as many deserving students as possible, the continued financial support of the many friends and alumni of the university and the International Education Center is essential..
With the goal of providing - and increasing - that support, the creation of the Global Scholars Fund, established by an anonymous donor for the purpose of providing financial assistance to international and study abroad scholars, was announced in 2002 at that year's International Dinner. Because of the generous continued outpouring of support from our community, the Global Scholars Fund now totals more than $50,000 and provides funding that is critical to meeting the needs of our students. Through the Fund, dozens of deserving students each year are given the opportunity to further enhance their education, conduct valuable research, seek permanent solutions to the world's most pressing needs and issues, and gain the experience and skills necessary for success in today's global and inter-connected economy.
Your gift to the Global Scholars Fund is a direct investment in the future.
