The minor in Black Studies provides students the opportunity to learn about the African American experience in the United States from an interdisciplinary perspective. Students will additionally engage with the cultures of the black world including Africa and the Black Diaspora in the United States of America, Brazil and the Caribbean. 

Minor Requirements (Total Credits: 15 hours)

Satisfactorily complete one the following courses (3 hours)

  • BLST 2010 Intro to Black Studies
  • AFST 2010 Intro to African Studies

Elective Courses (12 hours)

  • Satisfactorily complete 12 hours from courses with a AFST or BLST subject prefix. At least 9 hours should be at the 3000-4000 level.

Earn a grade of C or higher in all AFST/BLST courses
