Our Upcoming Events

Please join us on Zoom starting in January for new Flannery O'Connor discussions.  We'll pick out the letters that we find most interesting and revealing about Flannery O'Connor's personality, and we'll be on the lookout for what the letters can teach us about the fiction she was writing at about the same time.

We are pleased to announce that Flannery O'Connor Institute for the Humanities is hosting a series of Zoom events, primarily to share the results of NEH Summer Institutes on Flannery O'Connor. 

 Thursday, May 9 -7:00-8:00pm (Eastern): Ashley Massey and Tim Vande Brake will lead a discussion on O'Connor and Andalusia. With Dr. Bruce Gentry as emcee.

Writing for Success has the following events coming up: 

The Writing for Success Symposium will take place on Thursday, June 6, 2024 from 10:00am-4pm at the Museum Education Room of the GCSU library.

We had such a blast providing writing and communication workshops for 5th graders through our partnerships with CREATE, Inc. and Twin Lakes Libraries of Middle Georgia Regional Library System this fall! We're planning for next year's workshops in poetry, prose, podcasting, and more. Please fill out this Smartsheet form to help us best meet the needs of our students. Parents/guardians should attend workshops with students. Registration is free and materials are provided!

Writing for Success brings together writers of all levels to tell stories, share advice, and celebrate the many literary legends with connections to Milledgeville, including our famous alumna Flannery O'Connor.  Tune in to hear advice from writers and writing teachers on Wednesdays and hear students from Baldwin County Schools share their original writing on Fridays.

 

The Writing for Success grant is a 100% federally-funded Community Projects Grant of $385,000 to improve literacy in the Milledgeville-Baldwin County community.

Thursday, April 18, 2024 - 7:00-8:00pm (Eastern): The Flannery O'Connor Institute for the Humanities host a Zoom presenting three veterans of the 2023 HEH Summer Institute at Georgia College, "Reconsidering Flannery O'Connor". Bill Gonch, Matt Bryant Cheney, and Will Murray lead a discussion on "Flannery O'Connor and Race", with Dr. Bruce Gentry as emcee.
Tuesday, April 2 - 7:00-8:00pm (Eastern) Rosemary Magee and Amy Alznauer - the two O'Connor curators of the Emory exhibit "At the Crossroads with Benny Andrews, Flannery O'Connor, and Alice Walker" - shared the passions and curiosities that drew them to this archival work and shaped their curation.
Thursday, March 21 at 7:00 PM (Eastern) - Dr. Bruce Gentry leads discussion on O’Connor Letters written in 1961 & 1962 (in The Habit of Being, this involves pp. 425-503)
