Application Process
Students are required to have a minimum of a 3.0 GPA to qualify for the GC in DC Legislative Internship Program. Students must also complete an application process:
1. Meet with a GC in DC Legislative Internship Program Coordinator to discuss the program. You can schedule a "Legislative Internships" appointment on Handshake or attend an information session.
2. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis.
• Spring 2026 applicants are encouraged to submit their information by September 12th, 2025.
• Summer 2026 applicants are encouraged to submit their information by January 1st, 2026.
Application Materials
In order to complete an application, students should submit the following required documents:
1. One page resume (for help writing a resume, please schedule an appointment with the Career Center)
2. Two letters of recommendation
3. Complete application form
4. Interest statement (150 words): Why are you interested in the GC in DC Program?
5. Position statement (250 words): Identify an issue and support your perspective.
In addition, students who wish to apply for financial assistance via the GC in DC Legislative Internship Program may do so by submitting a statement of financial need along with the required application materials. The statement should be less than 400 words and answer the following prompt: How will financial assistance help you succeed in a DC-based internship?
Once the application materials have been reviewed, interviews will be scheduled with qualified candidates.
