The Juke Joints of Milledgeville

The following projects have been made for GCSU's Ina Dillard Russell Library:

Peace & War

Peace & War

Peace & War, curated by Evan Leavitt, MLIS, is a digital exhibit that explores the Vietnam experience through the lens of the Georgia College student-run newspaper, The Colonnade, demonstrating the parallels found between campus opinion and the national experience during this tumultuous time. Oral histories from local veterans and alumni present the juxtaposition of experiences found between student and solider, and how far-reaching cultural issues created a divisive environment that made one feel as if the nation was falling apart.

Common Heritage

Common Heritage

The Common Heritage digital exhibit, curated by Evan Leavitt, MLIS, was made possible through the Common Heritage Grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities to capture the underrepresented history of the Milledgeville African American community. The exhibit reflects on how the African American community has made change, and gained incremental advance that collectively would transform the race’s agency, the self-determination to act independently and make their own free choices. African Americans, by creating their own organizations and institutions, developed ways to address their needs and aspirations that fostered the values of community, service, and mutual support.
