Milly 48 Film Fest: Team Rules

Milly 48 Film Fest: Team Rules

Friends, families, and neighbors making short films together. Keep it fun, keep it safe, and keep it yours.

The basics

Anyone in our community can play, and teams can be any size. Every team needs a Team Leader, who must be 18 or older. The Team Leader signs up the team by [registration deadline] and is our main contact. Everyone on the team, cast and crew, signs the Milly 48 release form, and anyone under 18 needs a parent or guardian to sign too. Bring the signed forms to [place and time].

Your weekend

  • Friday, November 20: Meet at [time and place] for kickoff and pick up your Surprise Challenge.
  • Saturday, November 21: Work day! The Milly 48 crew will be at the Depot from [hours] to answer questions.
  • Sunday, November 22: Turn in your film by noon. That evening, join us for the celebration, where we screen the top 10 films and give out prizes.

Start fresh

Your film's story begins at kickoff. Come with your team and your energy, but not with a finished script or footage you shot earlier.

The ELEMENT OF SURPRISE

Teams will be given three surprise elements at kickoff. Work it into your film in any way you like.

Film length

Films can run up to 10 minutes, including credits. Shorter is welcome. Turn yours in as an .mp4 file through the Submission Form. Films that arrive after noon on Sunday can't be screened.

Be original

Use only things your team made or has permission to use. That includes music, images, logos, artwork, clips, and scripts. Please skip popular songs, brand logos, and characters from other movies, shows, or games. Royalty-free music and images are fine when the license lets you show your film in public. If you film on someone's property, get their written permission and keep it. Your Team Leader double-checks all of this.

Keep it family-friendly

Our celebration is for all ages. Keep your film suitable for a general audience and kind to real people. We may skip a film that doesn't fit the event.

Play it safe

No dangerous stunts, no filming while driving, and no real weapons. Tell us before using a prop that could look like a weapon. Follow all laws and campus rules, and stay out of places you don't have permission to be. If someone gets hurt or things feel unsafe, stop and get help.

The Team Leader's job

The Team Leader is responsible for their team and their film, including cast, crew, equipment, locations, costs, and safety. GCSU and the Milly 48 crew host the event but don't direct or supervise any team.

Prizes

Community judges will choose the top films to screen at the celebration. We'll hand out the Milly Awards there, with a Grand Prize and awards for the best Hometown Feel. The judges' decisions are final.

Your film is yours

Your team keeps ownership of your film. By entering, you let the festival screen it and share clips to celebrate this event and promote future Milly 48 events.

Questions?
