Leadership & Management Essentials Certificate


This four-day certificate program engages new or emerging leaders in the fundamentals of leadership, business practices, and people management. Employees who successfully complete this certificate program will be able to lead their team effectively, and efficiently with purpose, intent, and confidence. 

Certificate Details

A Georgia College program coordinator will work with you to implement this certificate program in your city or on our campus.

Participants will earn three continuing education units (3.0 CEUs) plus a certificate of completion.

COurse 1

Leadership Essentials
Instructor: Harold Mock, Ph.D


Harold Mock directs the Office of Leadership Programs and teaches courses on principles of leadership. He is a member of the International Institute for Strategic Studies and the Atlanta Council on International Relations.

Leadership Essentials Course Information:
6-8 hours

  • Understand the difference between leadership and management
  • Explore and analyze coaching styles
  • Develop interpersonal skills to communicate effectively, provide effective feedback, and build trust
  • Develop leadership competencies for managing change, solving problems, making decisions, managing politics, setting vision and strategy, and managing work


COurse 2

Business Fundamentals
Instructor: Ward Risvold, Ph.D


Ward Risvold is the Director of the AI lab and teaches business communications in the College of Business & Technology. He is an expert in Plain Language, Technical Writing, and Principles of Business Communication and Leadership. His current research focuses on AI in the Workforce.

Business Fundamentals Course Information:
6-8 hours

  • Apply strategies for best practices in business communication 
  • Develop skills for effective decision-making
  • Understand the crucial role of a positive workforce culture and how it can influence employee morale, engagement, and productivity.
  • Develop skills to speak and present effectively


Course 3

People Management
Instructor: Aric Wilhau, Ph.D



Aric Wilhau teaches management in the College of Business & Technology. His areas of research include motivation, deviant workplace behavior, and individual differences (personality, values).

People Management Course Information:
6-8 hours

  • Understand how to effectively onboard and train new employees
  • Explore performance management techniques and strategies for employee conflict resolution
  • Understand how to write effective performance evaluations and disciplinary actions
  • Lawful terminations and offboarding


Course 4 

Instructor: Liz Speelman, Ph.D.


Liz Speelman is the Director of the Outdoor Center and Senior Lecturer in Outdoor Education.  Whether on the challenge course, out in a field, or in a traditional classroom, she teaches about group dynamics, interpersonal relationships, and leadership.

Workshop Information:
6-8 hours

  • Identify strategies to enhance work processes and team communication
  • Develop strategies for enhanced interpersonal communication 
  • Identify techniques for conflict resolution
  • Understand how to contribute to a more positive and productive work environment where effective communication serves as a cornerstone for successful collaboration and relationship-building
