The mission of the Dean's Strategic Council is to assist the College of Arts and Sciences in identifying and securing resources for the advancement of the college programming, instructional, research and service missions.
Among the most important Board initiatives, the Dean’s Excellence Scholarship program supports first year students with exceptional admissions portfolios and with financial need, who also come from communities underrepresented at Georgia College & State University.
In Memory of Steve Skalko

A registered professional engineer in both civil and fire protection engineering, he earned his Bachelor of Civil Engineering from Georgia Tech in 1975 and his Master of Science in Public Administration from Georgia College in 1978.
A man of faith and service, Steve was deeply devoted to his church in Macon, where he served as Chair of his Church Council and in many other leadership roles. He also gave generously of his time to professional and civic organizations including the Georgia Society of Professional Engineers and the American Cancer Society, Bibb Unit. Steve’s commitment extended to Georgia College, where he was an active and dedicated member of the Arts & Sciences Leadership Board. Always optimistic and inquisitive, he cared deeply about the students and their success.
Above all, Steve was a devoted husband to his spouse, Jane, and a proud father of two children, Aiden and Mary Alice. He cherished time with family and found joy in golfing and fishing.
