Preparing Educators Who Make a Difference
The Department of Teacher Education at Georgia College & State University prepares educators to make a meaningful difference in schools, organizations, and communities. Our innovative undergraduate and graduate programs combine research, theory, and practice with meaningful partnerships and hands-on experiences. Guided by the Architects of Change Conceptual Framework, students develop the knowledge, skills, and professional dispositions to become confident, reflective, and engaged educators.
A Collaborative, Cohort-Based Experience
Our cohort-based programs create a supportive learning environment where students build strong relationships with faculty and peers while progressing together through their professional coursework. Through field experiences, clinical practice, mentorship, and leadership opportunities, students connect what they learn in the classroom to the realities of the profession.
Undergraduate educator preparation programs are offered exclusively in a cohort model, beginning in the fall of the junior year and continuing through graduation. Admission to undergraduate cohorts is competitive.
Connected to the Profession
Students have opportunities to engage with professional organizations that extend learning beyond the classroom and foster leadership, networking, advocacy, service, and professional growth. Active student organizations and professional associations include the Collegiate Middle Level Association (CMLA), Council for Exceptional Children (CEC), Georgia Association for the Education of Young Children (GAEYC), and Georgia Association of Educators (GAE).
Nationally Recognized Preparation
The Department of Teacher Education's educator preparation programs are nationally accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP). Our Middle Grades Education and Special Education programs have also earned national recognition through their Specialized Professional Associations (SPAs). These distinctions reflect our commitment to high-quality educator preparation, strong professional standards, and continuous improvement.
