Charles has earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration from Georgia State University, and advanced to Emory University School of Law, where he earned his Juris Doctorate. He has served on several professional organizations and executive boards over the past 15 years, including the Broadspire Client Advisory Council, the Association of Corporate Counsel, as chair of the US Law Network Client Leadership Council and others. Charles served as assistant general counsel for ING North America Insurance Operations. His roots in the legal profession began in private practice, working with law firms in Atlanta. In his prior position as general counsel and corporate secretary for The Coca-Cola Bottlers’ Association, which he has held since 2000, Norton has provided broad-based legal support, including contract negotiations, risk management, litigation oversight and corporate advising. He also brings insight from the perspective of being a proud Bobcat parent as he joins our GCSU team.
Mary joined Georgia College as a Temporary Legal Affairs Manager in September 2021 and became the official Legal Affairs Manager in December. As the manager, Mary reviews and processes all contracts that are routed through the Legal Affairs office: receives open records requests, obtains the records from the appropriate department and disseminates it back to the requestor: provides guidance and facilitates the immigration status for international employees: communicates with various outside entities in regard to intellectual properties and copyrights: manages office functions and assistants General Counsel. Mary relocated from West Palm Beach, Florida where she worked 11 years at Palm Beach State College as an Administrative Sergeant to the Director of Security & Risk Management.
