OUR Mission
The mission of the Student Health Clinic is to provide quality assessment and treatment to students in time of sickness and injury and to promote a healthy lifestyle and wellness. These services are provided by Nurse Practitioners, support staff, and the University Health Educator. The staff embraces a wellness concept along with an educational approach to help students achieve wellness and to gain the maximum benefit from their college experiences.
Our Staff
Student Health Services is staffed by a clinical director, nurse practitioners, an office coordinator, and an administrative assistant. Nurse practitioners are registered nurses with advanced nursing degrees and clinical expertise. The student health services clinic's nurse practitioners are all nationally certified in their specialty area and approved by the Georgia Board of Nursing as advanced practice nurses. Nurse practitioners provide care through practice guidelines and have a consulting physician available at all times. In addition to providing direct care, the clinic staff is continuously involved in various campus outreach activities.
Nurse Practitioners
Angie Childre, DNP, MSN, APRN, Director, Student Health Services
Angie graduated from Georgia Southern with a Bachelor of Science in Health Science. She went on to obtain her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Georgia College and later received her Family Nurse Practitioner from Walden University. Angie started working for Student Health in 2016. In March of 2021, she accepted the position of director of Student Health and in May 2021 she graduated with her Doctorate of Nursing Practice from GCSU making her a proud double alumni of Georgia College. Angie enjoys anything active and outdoors, especially mountain biking!
Stephanie Ard, MSN, APRN
Stephanie Ard joined GCSU health services in 2021. She has experience in nephrology, occupational medicine, family medicine, urgent care, women’s health, student health and aesthetics. She completed the ASN program at Macon State College, BSN at Chamberlain College of Nursing and MSN- Nurse Practitioner program at South University in Savannah, Georgia. Stephanie is a Board-Certified Nurse Practitioner, Certified DOT Examiner, and certified aesthetic NP.
Theresa Buchanan, DNP, MSN, APRN
Theresa Buchanan DNP, FNP graduated with her doctorate in nursing practice from Georgia College & University in 2014. Theresa graduated from Medical College of Georgia in 2008 where she received her Master’s Degree in Nursing and training as a Family Nurse Practitioner. Theresa has experience in emergent and urgent care, internal medicine and education. Theresa lives with her husband in the Milledgeville area and enjoys spending time on Lake Sinclair.
Kimberly Griffin, DNP, MSN, APRN
Kim graduated from GCSU with her Batchelor of Science in nursing in 1990 and her MSN Family Nurse Practitioner degree in 2016 from Walden University. She completed her Doctorate of Nursing Practice at GCSU in May 2021. Kim worked in emergency medicine, urgent care, and public health prior to accepting the position as a NP at Student Health in March 2022. She is a board-certified NP with AANP, DOT certified, and completed SANE training in 2019 with Georgia College.
Angie Mason, MSN, APRN
Angie graduated from Georgia College with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She later obtained a degree in Women's Health Nurse Practitioner from Emory University and later graduated with a Family Nurse Practitioner degree from Georgia College.
Student Health Staff
Rhonda Dixon, Office Assistant, Purchaser
Rhonda coordinates office functions such as making appointments in the clinic and assists students with registering when they arrive at the clinic. She also is the purchaser for the clinic.
Stephanie (Sissy) Shipman, Administrative Assistant
Sissy serves as the receptionist and manages functions at the front desk such as making appointments, handling insurance claims and billing, and helping students register when they arrive at the clinic.
Michael Duke, M.D., Consultant
Dr. Duke is a Family Practice Physician in Milledgeville and serves as consultant to the clinic nurse practitioners.
