Brand Messaging

What is our brand?

We asked the GCSU community to describe the university in their own words. Many pointed out our unique approach to the liberal arts, others pointed to their distinct experiences and others mentioned the one-of-a-kind community. It became clear that we were all saying the same thing in our own way – “It’s Different Here.” GCSU offers a truly different experience for our entire campus community and that difference drives how we present our brand.

Brand Statement

Our rigorous undergraduate and graduate programs provide early access to hands-on work, meaningful connections with faculty and staff mentors, and ample opportunities to explore across disciplines. Through these experiences, GCSU students learn to communicate, think critically, solve complex problems and develop other workforce-ready tools.

It's different here — intentionally so.

Explore. Collaborate. Learn By Doing.

We are proud to be Georgia’s designated public liberal arts university. At GCSU, you can see the liberal arts at work as students have opportunities to explore, collaborate and learn by doing.

  • Explore - Ample opportunities to explore across disciplines
  • Collaborate - Meaningful connections with faculty and staff mentors
  • Learn By Doing - Early access to hands-on work

How we verbalize our brand personality

Aspiring

Aspiring

Talks about possibility and growth, not just achievement.

Sounds like: “here’s who you could become.”

Curious

Curious

Asks questions, notices small interesting things, doesn’t just announce.

Sounds like: “did you know...” or spotlighting a specific detail that highlights the GCSU difference.

Determined

Determined

Plainspoken and grounded, celebrates effort not just wins.

Sounds like: short confident sentences.

Engaged

Engaged

Present tense, references real people and moments in action.

Sounds like: Naming the student, class and/or place. Not: Generic stock photos.

Passionate

Passionate

Warm, has an emotional register, isn’t flat.

Sounds like: Genuine enthusiasm about specific things.

Welcoming

Welcoming

Welcomes the whole audience, prospective students, parents, alumni. No plain language or slang that excludes anyone.

Sounds like: Something a parent and first-year can both read without eaither feeling like it wasn’t meant for them.

Does my story exemplify the brand?

University Communications is always looking to share stories that further the brand of the university. We use a variety of platforms to communicate the many success stories from our students, faculty, staff, and alumni. Please share your ideas with us.

Here’s a few ideas of the kinds of stories we look for.

  • Students leading both inside and outside the classroom
  • Faculty challenging students to think independently, creatively and critically
  • Alumni who have become innovative and creative leaders
  • Staff who think outside the box to provide personal attention and dedication to every student
