Freshman Deadlines

July 1 - Fall semester application available in GAFutures.org

August 1 - Fall semester application available in CommonApp (*available for freshman applicants only)

Early Action October 15 - We have made some changes to our Early Action deadline. For Early Action admission, the admissions application, $50 application fee or fee waiver, official high school transcript, and one essay response are due by October 15. We will continue to accept ACT/SAT scores (both self-reported and official score reports) and optional materials (resume and recommendation letters) through October 25.  Students who meet these deadlines will be considered for early action admission and the President’s Scholarship Competition.  Early action admission assures the student a non-binding admission decision before Thanksgiving and they will also gain access to our housing application and our course preference form, when it opens.

November 1 - Spring semester application deadline

Rolling Admissions April 1 - Applications should be complete by this date to be considered for admission to the fall term. Beginning in January (after the early action deadline), decisions will be released on a monthly basis.

May 1 - Confirmation and housing deposit deadline to secure spot in fall class.

Application Procedures Checklist

Checklist

Freshmen applicants must submit to the Georgia College Office of Admissions the following documents for admission consideration:

  • Application for admission
  • Application fee or fee waiver
  • Official high school transcript
  • Official SAT and/or ACT score report or self-reported SAT or ACT test scores – Georgia College's school code is 5252 for SAT and 0828 for ACT (www.collegeboard.org/www.act.org). In an effort to expedite the application completion process, Georgia College will allow self-reported test scores for initial admission review.  Self-reported test scores listed in the Common Application or GA Futures application can be used to complete a student's application. Students can also submit self-reported score form found in the student's application portal after they submit their application.  If the student is admitted to Georgia College using self-reported ACT/SAT scores, they will need to submit official test scores from the testing agencies by April 1 for their admission to be finalized.
  • One Personal Essay
  • Official college transcripts, if applicable (i.e. Dual Enrollment Credits)

Highly Recommended Items:

  • Letter of recommendation from teacher or counselor
  • Resume of co-curricular activities or *ZeeMee digital resume

Since Georgia College utilizes a holistic review process, letters of recommendation and resumes may be included on the application for admission, upload in student portal, mailed to Campus Box 23, Milledgeville, GA 31061, or emailed as a Microsoft Word document/ PDF format to admissions@gcsu.edu. Please include the applicant’s full name and birth date when sending the recommended items to ensure materials are updated to the correct application. Please note: Georgia College does not utilize a specific teacher recommendation form.

This should help greatly when you are trying to view what items your students are missing and when you need to upload documents (think: high school transcript, recommendation letters, etc.). We are hoping that this will help streamline the process for you.

*If a counselor submits a high school transcript via CommonApp BEFORE a student has submitted the CommonApp application, the transcript will not be received until AFTER our office receives the application.

*If a student submits a GAfutures application and the counselor submits the transcript via CommonApp, the transcript will not be received by our office.

Georgia College is dedicated to extending learning beyond the classroom to foster critical thinking skills and help students develop the tools necessary to not only consume knowledge, but also produce knowledge. Our faculty create a rigorous and challenging classroom experience and prepare students to combine that experience with real-world applications. With this educational style in mind, the student will need to choose one of the two following essay topics:

  • Given your own individual background and life experiences, what strengths or distinctions will you contribute to the student body at GCSU?

OR

  • Please describe the most important goal you have established for yourself regarding your future undergraduate experience and explain how a Georgia College education fits into accomplishing this goal.

GCSU Admissions Statement on AI:
AI tools can be powerful and helpful when used responsibly and thoughtfully. AI based writing assistance programs should be treated like any other form of assistance, whether it is a parent, counselor, or teacher. Using such resources to brainstorm and to refine ideas is appropriate. Cutting and pasting is not. Ultimately, the writing you submit on your application must be your own. The essay prompts that Georgia College & State University has chosen helps us to better understand you as a person, your goals, and what you will contribute to the GCSU community. You are the only person who can authentically communicate this information.
