Georgia College & State University’s Online Graduate Certificate in Nonprofit Leadership and Management teaches students how to lead and manage their nonprofit organization and navigate the nonprofit environment. The certificate combines academic rigor and skill set training to enhance the performance of those currently working in the nonprofit sector. It also sets a solid foundation for master’s degree students about to enter the field.

Upon completion of the program, students will have a rich understanding of the nonprofit sector, as well as the skills and leadership capacity required to effectively navigate the unique challenges of making a social impact in today’s world. Graduates of the program will go on to effectively lead organizations that make a difference – service delivery nonprofits, advocacy organizations, social enterprises, or philanthropic institutions.

Why the Nonprofit Leadership and Management Certificate?

There are more than 1.5 million nonprofits in the United States, according to the National Center for Charitable Statistics. Of those surveyed by Nonprofit HR, 51 percent increased their staff size in 2015 and another 57 percent plan to create new positions in 2016. The nonprofit sector’s growth has created a need for professionals with strong leadership, managerial, and interpersonal skills. But finding the talent to meet that demand is one of the biggest problems facing nonprofits today—23 percent of organizations surveyed by Nonprofit HR reported challenges hiring qualified staff.

Georgia College currently offers the Master of Public Administration to create the next generation of nonprofit leaders. The MPA program helps prepare students for roles in the government or the nonprofit sector. The Online Graduate Certificate in Nonprofit Leadership and Management, however, costs less than the MPA degree and requires less time to finish while the program still teaches specific skills or hones topics within larger fields. It is for those who cannot commit to the complete MPA program, but wish to benefit professionally from the skill set.
