As an integral part of the Liberal Arts mission, Georgia College & State University seeks to enrich classroom learning through field experiences, internships and coaching and mentoring opportunities. To that end, the Department of Government and Sociology provides numerous internship opportunities for its students across its various academic programs which include Criminal Justice, Sociology, Public Administration and Political Science.
Over the years, students participated in the prestigious Carl Vinson Institute of Government Legislative Internship Program (CVIOG) at the University of Georgia. In addition to general placements, this internship program allows for a GCSU student to serve as a CVIOG Legislative Intern. These positions are awarded based on the quality of the student applications.
Additional internship opportunities are available at the Robins Air Force Base. Recently, a student participated as an intern within the 461st Air Control Wing of the U.S. Defense Department. Working with the Commander and the Executive Officer of the Commander, the intern assisted in the production of new Public Service Announcements for the Team JSTARS (Joint Surveillance Target Attack Radar System).
Other internship options include Georgia College’s Office of Institutional Equity and Diversity (OIED) and opportunities with local government agencies such as the Putnam County Planning and Zoning Department and the City of Macon.
